The Common Cottage, Fairview, Tennessee
No,not a halfway house but a social experiment. What happens when five friends rent a house in a remote, almost impossible to find at night for the summer with the intent of throwing parties. A social club of sorts. Commentary, some by guests, some by Noble and Lee Choate, with photos, will be up and running here in the future.
Note: My buddy Lee Choate has been busy with many other issues recently and has not had time to tweak his draft. When it arrives it will be very good. It will happen. Stay
tuned.
Well, I'll fill in for Lee for the moment. The Common Cottage idea was formulated at the infamous Highway Pup across from where yours truly was a banker in training for First American Bank, a teller at that time. After work I would walk across the street to meet old friends from BGA and newly acquainted friends. Each night pretty much played out the same, 4 or 5 beers, a cheeseburger, a little pinball, then off to bed. Back to work the next day. A lot of energy was brewing at the Pup, which needed to be released at some other venue. Brilliant idea hits, let's rent a house/cottage out in the sticks for the ultimate party experience. Who's in? To name a few, Dickie G, Lee Choate, Bob Purdy, Tony Johnston, Harry Walters, Jackie Caldwell, Ranse Brown, Tommy Burns, Joe Gayden, Doswell Brown, Max Moller plus several others. I remember Doswell on the roof taking beer bottles on the chest, empty of course. Christmas in July, my brainchild, was a major hit. Tampax hanging on the tree, Choate on the drums. On occasion we would have a band. Question? Who pissed on Ginny K as she lay at the bottom of the stairs, passed out. She was my date and it went bad early. How many who drove out never could find the Common Cottage? Very dark, very confusing. Many crash and burns happened. Some never made it. Some in a ditch. Stay tuned.
